Have you ever been out for coffee with your friends and the topic of partner pet names comes up? You know the names we call our loved ones, the terms of endearment to which we respond. We all have them. How they came about is often a story in itself.
Even more hilarious is that many couples take the idea of giving nicknames to their spouses, or girlfriends/boyfriends to the next level. We begin to coin nicknames for various parts body (intimate parts) as well as coming up with a personalized code word for the act of being sexually intimate.
Are these people crazy, or do they just have a weird sense of humor? Or is this normal?
Research would tell us that it is in fact the norm. Over eighty-three percent of individuals refer to their partners with a love term (who could ever forget the Seinfeld episode where George affectionately calls his girlfriend ‘Poopsie-Whoopsie’ to Jerry’s dismay).
Most Common Love Names:
And then there are the few terms of endearment, although they may not come across like it, such as: fart-knocker, chubby, grumpy, princess etc…
Even more astounding is that over seventy-six percent of people actually have a pet name for their body parts and their lovemaking. There once was a woman who named her boobs ‘Freddie and Eddie’ and another who called hers the ‘Boobsie Twins’. Can you remember the three different nicknames Homer gave Marge on the Simpson`s in reference to her boobs? Hootie McBoob, Busty St. Clair and Chesty Larue.
And what about men?
Most guys like to give names to their penis. Maybe because they feel it has a mind of its own. Maybe because they like to talk to it! And then it can be argued that it`s because they have trouble thinking with their real head often being led by their ‘other’ head. Consider it like a split personality disorder. For men it’s simply just easier to separate the two.
Common Names for the Male Member:
- One Eye’d Trouser Snake
- German Soldier
- Pink Steel
Many of the names make no sense and some names are simply the ego of the guy coming through.
And then there are the phrases used to capture the essence of getting physical. Phrases like the ‘horizontal bop,’ ‘play-time’ is a very common term used by many adults to signal the moment for getting frisky and enjoying a little love-making. There is also the term ‘nookie‘ which many adults understand to mean sex. If you have ever seen the movie Beerfest who could forget the term ‘slap and tickle’!
So what does it all mean?
When it comes to matters of the heart, humans like to personalize their affections and lay claim to their territory – which equates to their partner.
When it comes to naming a specific body part we do so for a variety of reasons:
- It is a way to add some humor and personality to the topic.
- It helps to create a small barrier between our real emotions and the act itself.
Both prove to be extremely helpful, especially if one experiences difficulty in their sexual performance. It’s always easier to blame ‘Ralph’ or ‘Herb’ for a poor performance than yourself.
So when it comes to showing affection with your partner don’t forget to include their buddy! If you are not sure what to give your loved one why not give them the gift of an affectionate nickname or even better buy something personal for you and the ‘German soldier’ to enjoy!
