8-3-2012- Gay rights activists responding today to the “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” with their own form a protest.
“Same Sex Kiss Day” is a reaction to comments last month from Dan Cathy, the president of the chicken sandwich chain. He said in an interview that he supported the “biblical definition of the family unit” showing his opposition to same sex marriage.
The protest, started by a political activist Carly McGehee, has more than 15,000 people participating. Same sex couples will flock to Chick-fil-A restaurants to kiss in front of the restaurant’s patrons.
However, it seems the other side’s support of the fast food company on “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day”, which was this past Wednesday, set record sales according to executive vice president of marketing Steve Robinson. He added at least one location even had to close early because they ran out of chicken.
Whatever side you find yourself on, it is clear that this debate will continue. And despite threats of boycotting the restaurant for its values, it seems Chick-fil-A will most likely profit from this publicity.
