To celebrate their 10 year Anniversary the Family Resource Centre Western Region Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender Network recently hosted a hugely successful conference at the Harbour Hotel, Galway. The Network hosted this conference to; highlight and share best practice in the community and voluntary sector; promote inter-agency collaborative partnerships; identify future directions and areas of work for FRC’s post marriage equality; while also planning for the future. With contributions from Amach, Dundalk Outcomers, LGBT Pavee and Shout, the conference involved presentations, an expert panel discussion and a round table forum where participants were invited to explore and reflect upon current issues facing the LGBT community.
Since its inception in 2006 the FRC LGBT Network has been active in promoting the rights, inclusion and support of LGBT people in Galway and Mayo counties through varied social justice based activities and outreach. The role of the FRC LGBT Network is to develop local and countywide responses to LGBT issues; highlight supports available and share resources; work together in order to achieve more through shared supports; provide visibility in local communities for LGBT people and their emerging issues; support FRC responses to LGBT issues and help ensure that FRCs are friendly and inclusive to LGBT people, their families and friends.
If you would like any further information about supports or services that exist for LGBT people in your area, please contact your local Family Resource Centre for details.
